We hopped onto a bus to Mexico City and then an over-nighter to Puerto Escondido via Oaxaca. We arrived a bit dazed and confused after a pretty mammoth journey and headed to the place we had booked ahead in Morelia. It took a while to get hold of the apartment owners as they did not speak a word of English and our Spanish was pretty basic at best (Spanish lessons are needed). We headed to the main tourist area of Zicatela which is where the 'Mexican Pipeline' was pumping in some 12-20ft waves thanks to the biggest swell they have had for 6 years. The beach bars where evacuated and the contents drying out after some big waves tried to relocate them into the Pacific. It was an awesome sight, only a handful surfed and were mostly being towed out with jet-skis.
The bay next to our apartment called Carrizalillo about 15 mins from town was a little more our standard and was a great little wave to practice on. To our amazement the apartment was even better than we had hoped, with it's own private pool and full outdoor kitchen and cooking area. The temperatures rarely dipped below 30 degrees even at night so most things were done outside!
