Wow, what a week!

Our last week of California started off by saying goodbye to mum and Nick and heading to the coast just North of San Diego to a cool little surfing town called Cardiff-by-the-sea. We ended up staying in a campground which overlooks the beach and the sea where the local pro surfers hang out.
After a few days of relaxing, enjoying the sunshine and surfing we headed to our first ever Baseball game at the local San Diego Padres stadium. We really were lucky as somebody kindly gave us their spare tickets which just happened to be three rows from the pitch, so we had amazing seats. Thankfully the tickets didn't cost anything because the food and drink inside were incredibly expensive; $8 for a beer! It was a really entertaining night and we got talking to a local who taught us some of the rules which helped us understand the game a little. We did however notice that a lot of people appeared to be there to socialise as opposed to actually watching the game, so they might not have known the rules either.

Go Padres

I had to contain my excitment all weekend as on the Monday (3rd May) we'd booked in to the San Diego County Administration Center to get married. We'd decided we wanted to get married on our trip in a place we really enjoyed being in and felt San Diego was a great destination as we really love California and the cool relaxed vibe of the South was just perfect. The Administration Centre is a really pretty art deco building overlooking the harbour, surrounded by flowers, so seemed like the perfect venue. We awoke the morning of the 3rd to the most beautful day; clear blue skies and the sun was shining brightly. I had a new dress and a gorgeous Mexican silver ring. The ceremony took all of about 10 minutes with just the two of us, we didn't even need any random witnesses. We both got a bit emotional but could't keep the grins off our faces afterwards.

We were desperate to tell our parents and sisters about what we'd done and received some lovely messages in return.

We then went to a very cool French bistro for lunch where we celebrated with some fizz and delicious food. It was the perfect day.

The next day was Marc's 31st birthday, so another day of celebration. Hopefully it ended up being the perfect birthday with bacon sarnies for breakfast, surfing for most of the day, chocolate cake, and was rounded off with a bottle of very fine wine and a cigar by the fire.

Tomorrow we say goodbye to our RV and California and head for Mexico where we plan to meet our good friends Sarah and Kev and embark upon the next five months of travel through Central and South America, some might say our honeymoon.
